Waxing - Full Body
Body Waxing in Grand Island
Bikini waxing is a standard grooming practice for thousands of women. If you are new to waxing, here's the lowdown on exactly what happens. I have 10 years of experience in waxing, thousands of bikinis and I have seen it ALL so try not to be too self-conscious.
Find someone with experience. All Estheticians and most Cosmetologists are licensed to perform waxing. You don't want someone who simply offers the service, but specializes, skilled and experienced in bikini and body waxing. Seek out referrals or try a less invasive wax such as brows to make sure you are comfortable with the facility and technician.
Timing. Your skin is often more sensitive the time near your period, and waxing can be more painful than normal. So your appointment shouldn't be any closer than 4 days before or after your period. Most places understandably won't perform this service while you're on your period.
Cleanliness - Shower and lightly exfoliate your entire bikini area right before your appointment using warm, not hot water. Make sure you're extra clean.
Length of hair. The hair needs to be between 1/4 and a 1/2 inch. Any shorter and you won’t get good results, if it is longer then a half it will be more painful and take longer.
1. There are several categories of bikini wax based on how much hair is removed and priced accordingly. The Bikini is a simple tidy up so the hair doesn't extend beyond your swimsuit line. The Extreme Bikini removes a little bit more depending on the clients wishes. The Brazilian removes everything except your very bottom. You can choose to leave a “landing strip” of some kind if you choose to. The Hollywood is total hair removal, front to back.
2. You will need to remove your clothes below the waist then sit on a salon table. For some waxes you can leave underwear on depending on how extreme you want your wax. I have to see it to wax it. You will have a towel to drape with so you will not be completely exposed.
3. The therapist applies melted hot wax onto a small section of your hair using a spatula, it's very warm, but not too hot, the I hold the skin taut and pull the strip away in one sharp tug. I continues repeating this process, both sides, until you're all done. A bit of redness is normal afterwards for a few hours.
Everyone has different pain thresholds but I won't kid you that it's painless (as many salons claim). Normally it results in a sharp pain that lasts for about a second. I recommend taking 2 Tylenol before your appointment. It definitely gets easier the more you have it done.
Try to get your Brazilian wax with someone that has a good reputation, go with referrals from friends or family, & definitely find someone that has experience. You should ask two questions, "How many brazilians do you do and what kind of wax do you use." the answer needs to be A LOT and HARD WAX. If they do not answer this way then they don't have much experience.
I cannot stress how important it is to find an experienced wax technician. Usually they are an esthetician, which specializes in skin care and waxing. Here are a few questions to ask when checking their knowledge and experience.
